LED Accent Lighting: 3 Forms to Meet Your Ambient or Standard Illumination Requirements.

The phrase, “energy-efficient lighting” may not resonate with a lot of people because they associate that term with “compact fluorescent lighting,” or CFL, a common-variety way of providing illumination.

But you can be sure there is nothing ‘common’ when it comes to the way LED Lighting can be used in homes or businesses.

Truly efficient and energy-efficient, LEDs are gaining traction, particularly among homeowners as they see its versatility in everything in the kitchen from decorative range hoods to under-cabinet lighting that provides that just-right-ambient lighting. Newcomers to LED lighting are generally faced with three choices, when it comes to the type of lighting they may be looking for:

CUSTOM CUT ROPE LIGHTS To begin with, forget about those bulk spools of LED rope lights you see on our website—you don’t have to order the spool!

We understand your individual needs, and that’s why we offer custom- cutting to you specifications: The basic length is a standard 39” section. And, yes, the length you order does include the power cord.

LED Strip Lights

Considered to be the next generation of accent lighting solutions, these ‘ribbons’ of LED low-voltage lights are extremely bright. Easy to install because of the peel-away-backing, these ribbons make for quick installations. And they come in two distinct varieties: 3528 SMDs and the larger 505S MDs.

LED Light Bulbs The old 40-60 watt incandescent bulb is no longer manufactured as January 1, 2014. That means a green light, of course,   to LED lighting, given their long life, durability and low power consumption.

LED Sustainability Outshines Any Other Form of Lighting

You’ve heard plenty about the sustainability of LED lighting, but just how eco-friendly are they really?

The answer: extremely!

Here are just some of the ways LED lights outshine the competition!

LED

LEDs Provide More Light, Less Power
LED lights use between 50-90% less energy when compared to more common fluorescent or incandescent bulbs. LEDs also produce 10 times more lumens per watt than incandescent lighting. This is in addition to the fact that LEDs take no time to warm up like traditional bulbs do, and can be dimmed to a lower setting, or turned up to provide brighter lighting in a snap.

LED Lights have a Longer Lifespan
LED lights have an average lifespan of 50,000 hours – that’s over 5 times longer than the average fluorescent, and nearly 50 times longer than the average incandescent. That translates to over 10 years of daily commercial or industrial use. LEDs are especially useful in industrial settings as well, given their increased durability. Unlike vacuum tube bulbs, LEDs are much harder to break, and don’t carry any risk of causing fire in case of damage.

LED Lighting Utilizes Greener Construction
Given the long life and durability of LED lights, much fewer need to be manufactured. Another great advantage to LED lights is that they are 100% recyclable, and toxic chemicals are not used in their construction.

Whether you manage an office building, warehouse, manufacturing plant, or are in charge of community or municipal street lights, the benefits of LED lighting is clear. Not only does their improved energy efficiency make for considerable savings on electric bills, they also result in greatly curbed emissions.

Tips for Getting Creative with LED Lighting

led-bulbWhether you own a home or a business, it’s always a good idea to cut costs and reduce your carbon footprint, both of which can be done by using LED lights whose average life span is 50,000 hours.  This means that even if you keep the light on 24 hours, which is probably not likely, you still won’t have to change the light bulb for six years.  During that time, you’re likely to go through 40-50 incandescents.  So get creative using the following LED lighting tips and transform your home or business:

  1. Get Creative with Light Fixtures.  There are a number of light shades available on the market.  You can get Victorian style lamps for your garden or Chinese paper lanterns for your patio.  Indoors, you can invest in stained glass lampshades or table lamps with cloth shades.  No matter what kind of fixtures you opt for, you can fit them with LED bulbs.  This way, your lighting will be practical as well as aesthetically pleasing.
  2. Adjust the Brightness.  Depending on what you’re using the light for, it’s important to have the right amount of brightness or dimness.  If you’re working on a project which involves drawing and accuracy, you probably want to have very bright lights.  On the other hand, if you want to create a romantic environment or just chill out by yourself in the bathtub, you’ll want dim lights.  Candles are great, of course, but they produce a lot of heat.  LED lights, on the other hand, save energy and are not too bright.  If necessary, you can even invest in dimmable lights and adjust their brightness depending on the occasion.
  3. Play with Light and Shade.  Recessed lighting can create a very pretty effect by throwing light only in a certain area.  Plus, you also get light shades which can direct your light in one direction or the other.  By installing a bright light but covering it up partly with a shade, you create mood lighting reminiscent of the Italian painter Caravaggio who was known for his stark contrasts.  Play around with this idea until you get the effect you were looking for.

So whether you’re trying to light up your home or your workplace, you can get a little creative with the use of lamps, chandeliers and other light fixtures.  Contact us for more tips on using LED lights to create the effects you desire.

3 Reasons Why You Should Invest in Quality LED University Lighting

college_lightsWe all know that universities bring students together for the purpose of expanding young minds, but did you know how important good lighting is for this journey? Chances are, the thought may not have crossed your mind but it’s very important to invest in quality university lighting. Still not sure why it matters?

Here are 3 great reasons to invest in good lighting:

1. Safety: Within a university campus, you can expect students to be coming and going at all hours.  Especially when it’s time for exams, students often stay up half the night at the library.  On weekends, students can be expected to attend parties.  In all these cases, they’re going to be walking around late in the night and sometimes, they’re going to be alone.  So for the sake of safety, it’s good to have sufficiently bright lighting all around campus and around the dorms.

LED lights have the advantage of longevity, so they’ll need to be replaced far less often than incandescents.  This means that they’re also safer.  That street lamp isn’t going to stop working without notice if it contains an LED light bulb.

2. Concentration: The right kind of lighting can be more conducive to concentration and learning.  Lights that are too bright or too dim fail to help students focus.  Very bright lights can hurt the eyes, and dim lights can put you to sleep.  In order to encourage concentration, you need to create an ideal environment which is neither too relaxed nor too tense.

Straight-backed chairs are probably a good idea, but you can make them somewhat more comfortable by making sure they’re upholstered and not just wood or metal.  Painting the library in warmer tones also helps.  And, of course, you’ll need the right kind of lighting.  One of the advantages of LEDs is that they can be dimmed as much as you like.  So you can be sure to create just the right environment for studying and concentration.

3. Socializing:  When it comes to larger places on campus such as the cafeteria, you want to encourage students to mingle, and making sure that the area is well-lit can help you to do that.  Universities often invite speakers or host events for students to go to in large auditoriums.  Once again, this makes it necessary to have sufficient lighting which can be adjusted to make it dimmer or brighter.  LED lights are great for this purpose.

If you’re looking for university lighting, you’ve come to right place. We’ll make sure that all your lighting needs are considered and taken care of. Learning is an illuminating process, make sure you have the right lighting!

What is the Future of Lighting? LED!

Empire-State-Building-537x358According to industry experts, and as reported in Forbes, the future of lighting is LED. The world has had the benefit of artificial light ever since Thomas Edison invented the first light bulb over 130 years ago. Over the last few decades, significant progress had been made in lighting technology and energy savings.

Compact fluorescent lights use just 13-watts to produce the same light that 60-watt incandescent bulbs require. LED (Light Emitting Diode) lights are now available which produce the same amount of light for just 7.5-watts of electricity. The benefits of LED for the environment is more than just electrical savings, though. LED lights are solid state, last up to 50,000 hours, contain no mercury and are 100% recyclable.

LED lighting allows for precise control functionality in lighting design. This technology goes beyond commercial use, it is starting to transform city nightscapes as well.

The Empire State Building in New York City, as part of it 21st century renovations, replaced traditional lighting fixtures with LED. Exterior lighting, which previously had 10 colors, now has 16.7 million possible programmable colors to work with. LED technology allowed designers to restore the original interior lighting schemes from the 1930, to complement the colors of the ceiling murals and stone walls in the lobby. The interior lighting was replaced by fluorescent lights in the 1960s.

Tvilight Intelligent Street lighting Solutions offers dimmable LED streetlight systems, which are already in use in Assen, The Netherlands. Lights along streets and pathways are set to a dim level, and increase in brightness as pedestrians or vehicles approach. The integrated system ensures a sufficiently large area of light is available when needed to provide both utility and safety.

The Philips FreeStreet lighting system employs sleekly designed directional LED streetlights. The lights are suspended from a cable stretched along streets and across open spaces. This lighting system reduces energy consumption by up to 60%. The design reduces light pollution, eliminates lamp posts, and makes the light fixtures practically invisible during the day.

LED lighting is fast becoming the most favored technology for new and retrofitted lighting needs. The benefits of LED include greater energy efficiency, lower maintenance costs and environmentally sound technology. How Much Money Can LED Systems Really Save You? A LOT!

green-supply-led-home-lightingIt’s easy to become numb to certain buzzwords we hear constantly in the media. There’s a humdrum stream of chatter concerning how to cut business and living costs and we hear the term “energy efficiency” on the daily. When it comes to LEDs (light-emitting diodes) however, it’s time to wake up and take notice! At least that’s what PG&E, the largest utility in California, did and they were amazed by the results.

In order to test the actual efficiency of LED lighting, PG&E enlisted the help of Boston-based company Digital Lumens. A networked LED system was installed in a 44,800-square-foot Ace Hardware distribution warehouse in California.

In California, energy efficiency is becoming a necessity. In fact, the Emerging Technologies Coordinating Council is in charge of making sure companies conserve as much energy as possible.

The Claim – Digital Lumens said they could save customers 90% by installing LED systems.

The Test – More than 100 metal-halide luminaries were replaced with LED lighting. The testing of this new system ensued which portrayed a variety of normal energy situations that would be faced by the company.

The Result – Lighting related energy use dropped by 93%. In addition, when employees were asked for their feedback regarding the new lighting they reported that they “prefer the lighting conditions of the post-retrofit.”

So why isn’t everyone using LEDs? Well, while they have been in existence in their earliest forms for decades LEDs are only recently becoming popular since time and again they are proving to not only conserve energy but capital as well.

Interior Lighting: 3 Tips for Making Your Home Perfect

lampDoes your home feel a bit dull? Have you tried everything from re-arranging the furniture to painting your walls? The answer may be much easier than you thought! With the right interior lighting, your home can take on a warm, inviting glow.

Fortunately today there are contemporary dynamic lights that you can use in your residential or commercial space. For example, there are ascent lights to add a little drama to your living room or hallways. These can also be effective as lighting for parties or for the  kitchen and children’s rooms. Other options you have include fluorescent bulbs, LEDs, incandescent bulbs and compact fluorescent bulbs. So how do you know where to start? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered.

In order to perfect a lighting project, you need to learn the basics. It all starts with understanding your business or home settings. This will make it easy for you to select the suitable lighting fixtures. You need to understand the ambiance of the different rooms to make the perfect choices. Knowing your budget will also prove very important due to the simple fact that different fixtures come at different prices.

1. Know Your Light Levels

Light levels are another aspect you have to look into. See to it that the bulbs you select put off light that is comfortable and captures the feeling you are going for. Quoting from Wise Geek“A painfully bright light may be perfect for a workroom, but it can be painful for guests enjoying a comfortable evening read in their bedrooms.” For a better experience, you can use adjustable shades to bulbs that emanate bright light.

2. Be Energy Efficient

Energy efficiency is another parameter you have to contemplate when deciding on the appropriate interior lights for your project. Make sure that the bulbs you select do not use up a lot of energy or you will see the unwanted side effects in your electricity bill. If you are not careful, lighting can account for the largest part of energy consumption. Other than selecting energy efficient bulbs, you can make use of natural lighting. Install transparent windows and glass doors in the premise. This way you will only use artificial lighting at night.

3. Make One Light Source Work for Multiple Areas

Use multiple light sources for one space. Take for instance the kitchen area. You can use task lighting which is usually brighter on counters and the sink area. On the cabinets and drawers, you can use dull lighting. When it comes to the bathroom, lights should be installed away from mirrors to avoid glaring.

Indoor lighting is not only for seeing better in your home or business; it is also used for ambiance and aesthetics. With appropriate lighting you feel that you are in the space and so does your customers.

Why LED Self-Storage Lighting Reigns Supreme

imagesSelf-storage facilities can really rack up utility bills – after all, lighting a large outdoor space throughout the night can quickly add up. Naturally, switching to more cost effective means for your outdoor lighting needs should be high on your priorities list – the savings really can’t be overlooked. So whether you operate a large or small self-storage lot, here are some reasons to consider LED lighting for your self-storage lighting needs.

More Efficient Operation: Compared to traditional bulbs, LED lights use up to 70% less energy while producing a brighter light – that translates to utility bills that can be as much as 70% lower than your current rates. With electricity prices constantly on the rise, that’s a a number that can’t be written off.

Longer Life: The average LED light is rated for 40-50 thousand hours of use. That’s up to 50 times longer than the average incandescent bulb. Not only do LED lights last much longer, they’re also much more durable, ensuring that you won’t have to replace them nearly as often, saving plenty of money not only on replacement bulbs, but also time and effort.

Improved Safety: Studies show that brighter white and blue hued lights are much safer than dim orange and yellow tinted ones. Not only do LED lights shine a brilliant blue-white, they’re also much brighter than traditional bulbs, making for better lighting throughout the night.

There’s no shortage of benefits that using LEDs for your outdoor lighting needs can bring. Contact us today for a free quote on your new LED lighting system!

Improving Workplace Productivity with a Commercial Lighting Retrofit

stressed-out-employee-300x288Most commercial offices still use outdated fluorescent lights. These bulbs need to be replaced often, use a ton of energy, and even lower productivity! Here are some little-known problems that fluorescent lighting can cause – and how an LED commercial lighting retrofit can solve them:

Fluorescent Problem: Fluorescent bulbs flicker, causing eye strain and fatigue. Especially towards the end of the day, your staff really starts to feel the toll of bad lighting.

LED Solution: LED lights produce a solid, uninterrupted light. There’s no flicker to cause eye strain, and this smoother light allows staff to work their best throughout the day.

Fluorescent Problem: Fluorescent bulbs can be overly bright, or not bright enough, depending on how they’re installed. Low-light, or over-lit environments both sap staff productivity.

LED Solution: Not only do LED lights turn on instantly with no need to warm up, they’re also dimmable to the best setting for you and your staff. If your office is underlit, this is no problem either – LED lights shine much brighter than conventional bulbs to begin with.

Fluorescent Problem: Fluorescent bulbs produce UV rays – while it’s not enough to cause sunburns in the office, prolonged UV exposure day in and day out is unhealthy!

LED Solution: LED lights use almost all the electricity that flows through them to generate light, so no excess energy is released as heat or UV rays. This is much healthier for your staff.
