George Karolis, Vice President of corporate development and real estate at Asbury Automotive Group and owner of a recently retrofitted Lexus dealership, couldn’t have said it better. Automobile dealerships’ number one concern is customer satisfaction. Car salesmen don’t want to be worrying about burned out or broken lamps while tending to customer needs, which makes LED lighting an optimal choice, said Karolis. The lights consume less energy, last longer, and have a better quality of light. Karolis’ Lexus dealership in Roswell, Georgia, replaced its exterior 750-1000 watt fixtures with Qnuru LEDs. The retrofit reduced lighting costs 86.6%, and the lamps have 19% more lumen output.
Emich Volkswagen, the oldest Volkswagen dealership in Colorado, recently replaced its interior and exterior lights with LEDs. SoGoGreen, a Colorado based LED distributor, installed 85 indoor and outdoor LED lamps. The outdoor high intensity discharge (HID) lamps were consuming 750-1000 watts and the indoor high bay ceiling lamps were consuming 400 watts. The new LEDs in the parking lot consume 131-161 watts and the new LED indoor lamps consume 102 watts. They also replaced outdoor wall and pathway lighting. The dealership is now consuming 80% less energy and plans to see a return on investment in 18 months from energy cost savings and Xcel Conservation Rebates. Fred Emich, partner and operator of the dealership, said they not only switched to LEDs for financial reasons, but because people come to their dealership for their efficient and environmentally friendly cars. They want their customers to know that the environment and efficiency is not only important for their cars, but also for their dealership.
Another Lexus dealership in West Springfield, Massachusetts also installed LED lighting from Qnuru. They replaced their 1000-watt metal halide lamps in the parking lot with 144-watt LED lights, reducing energy consumption by 86%. They also replaced their 322-watt high pressure sodium pathway lights with 67-watt LEDs, reducing energy consumption by another 80%. The dealership is planning to see a return on investment in less than 24 months!
